Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Tunnel Design Manager to lead the planning and design phases of complex tunnel projects within major civil and transportation infrastructure programs in Ireland. The role requires coordination of design consultants, integration of geotechnical and structural inputs, and ensuring delivery in line with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
– Oversee the design of road, rail, or metro tunnels from concept through detailed design
– Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including geotechnical, structural, and MEP designers
– Ensure compliance with Irish regulations and international tunneling standards
– Lead design review processes and provide technical guidance to consultants and stakeholders
– Support risk management, value engineering, and constructability analysis
– Liaise with authorities, contractors, and project management teams throughout the design lifecycle
Requirements:
– 10+ years of experience in tunnel design and engineering for transportation projects
– Strong knowledge of various tunneling techniques including TBM, NATM, and cut-and-cover
– Proven leadership in managing large-scale tunnel design packages
– Familiarity with Eurocodes and Irish infrastructure regulations
– Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering; postgraduate qualification in tunneling is preferred
– Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills
